Are you a special education and general education teacher who instructs students with significant cognitive disabilities that would like to provide an important service to the New Mexico Education community?

The New Mexico Public Education Department and American Institutes for Research is convening a committee of educators to participate in the Expanded Grade Band Expectation (EGBE) Selection Workshop for the New Mexico Alternate Performance Assessment (NMAPA) on June 16, 2009. This assessment, for students with significant cognitive disabilities is based on the EGBEs. These are alternative content standards based on the New Mexico academic content standards for English language arts, science, mathematics for grade bands 3-8 and 10-12+, and social studies for grade bands 10-12+.  Participants will assist with selecting the EGBEs that become the assessment framework for the Spring 2010 NMAPA.

    Who can apply?

Elementary, Middle- and High School Special Education and General Education teachers who instruct students with significant cognitive disabilities are invited to apply for this committee. Participants are expected to be competent in one or all of the following content areas depending on the grade band: English language arts, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies and must have a minimum of five years experience in the classroom with no fewer than three years in that area in a secondary setting.

Participants for the committee will be selected to best represent the state’s diverse ethnic groups, urban and rural areas, and according to individual experience and background.

    Where will the committee convene?

The committee will meet at the Nativo Lodge, 6000 Pan American Freeway NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico.  A continental breakfast will be served at 8:00 a.m. The meeting will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and is scheduled to end at 4:30 p.m.

    What is provided?
