Introducing the
Infection Control for Everyone (ICE) Campaign

New Mexico public schools should be commended for the tremendous job they do in balancing the health and safety needs with the educational needs of your students.  During the 2009-2010 school year, we urge you to take action to prevent disease transmission and protect your students, staff and community from infection. 

The New Mexico Public Education Department and the New Mexico Department of Health have joined together to create a new school health campaign to raise awareness about Standard Precautions and best practices for basic infection control in the school environment. 

Due to the nature of the schools, which lend themselves to the spread of multiple types of infectious diseases, it is imperative to instruct students and staff in the basic methods of infection control.   Practicing Standard Precautions and other infection control procedures will minimize student and staff time away from school for illness, while limiting the disruption of day-to-day activities and the vital learning that goes on in schools
