I have attended the Institute in the past. Can I come again?
You are welcome to apply to return to the Institute, with two provisions. One, you must select a different track than you attended in the past (the programming is very similar from year to year); and two, if the demand exceeds the space available, newcomers will receive priority.
Can I do one track on Day One and switch for Day Two?
No. Participants must select one track and stay with it. The Institute is set up so that you will receive two full days of training on ONE topic area. Having people switch topics would greatly interrupt the flow of the training.
I need to leave early/arrive late because of another commitment. Is this a problem?
It is imperative that individuals commit to attending the entire Institute. Groups will work together very closely throughout the two days and the absence of any member at any time throughout the training would be disruptive.
Will I receive materials from the other tracks?
Participants will receive material only for their chosen track. The materials go hand in hand with the training and may not be as valuable as a stand-alone. Also, the binders we distribute are very costly and we do not have excess in our budget to reproduce extras. Please note that you will have access to these materials through the other members of your team; this is why we highly recommend that your district/school send a full team.
Our District can't send seven people to attend. Can we apply to send a smaller team?
Yes, we will still take your application. We do encourage you to try to put together a full team so you have one person learning in each topic area and can share information.
We have more than seven people who want to attend. Can we apply to send a larger team?
Yes, we will still take your application. However, if there is an issue with space, you may be required to pare down your team to seven members.
There are two members of our team who really need to attend a particular track because our curriculum demands it. Can we do this?
Yes, we will still take your application. A letter must be submitted with the application requesting an exception due to your special circumstances. However, if there is an issue with space, you may be required to choose only one member to attend the track and arrange to share the information after the Institute.
Can I change tracks when I get to the Institute?
This is not possible. It is very important that your team discuss and solidify track selections before completing the applications. The trainers will be developing materials in advance for their participants, some of them personalized.
I am a Health Educator. Can I attend?
You are welcome to be a part of the team. Please be aware that some of the information provided may be a little basic for your background and expertise. However, we encourage you to be an active participant by sharing your knowledge with other attendees.
I am a Counselor. Can I attend?
The Institute is designed for teachers who must incorporate health education into the curriculum. If you do not go into the classroom, the Institute is not for you.
I am an elementary school teacher, can I attend?
Yes! Your district may send up to two elementary school teachers as part of the team. You will be enrolled in a track specific to your grade levels and given training in ALL FIVE topic areas.
I am with a private school, can I attend?
Since the Institute is funded by tax dollars we must give priority to the public school teachers who would like to attend. If space is available, we may consider taking private school teachers, because the information would be very valuable to their students, however, the Institute will not cover lodging or substitute pay. Please submit a letter to the Institute office for consideration.
I am at a charter school - how to I register?
Charter schools must work with the liaison in their district to placed on the district team.
