Providing Addiction Training Since 1965

The Silver City Addiction Institute has the distinction of being one of the oldest Addiction Training events in the United States. Although the theme and special topics change yearly, there are standard components that are included each year to meet the ongoing training needs of practicing counselors. These include:

      • The Addictive Process
      • Ethics
      • Supervision
      • Traditional Healing
      • Licensure Test Preparation
      • Licensure/Certification Assistance

The Silver City Addiction Institute is facilitated by addiction professionals and educators devoted to providing a vibrant training & fellowship experience.  The Institute will be held at the Global Resource Center on the campus of Western New Mexico University.

A special place, a unique experience

Silver City offers generous vistas of mountains, grasslands and the deep turquoise blue sky. It is the doorway to the spectacular scenery of the Gila National Forest. The Institute takes advantage of these serene environs by incorporating activities such as a special session at the Gila Cliff Dwellings and a picnic at Little Walnut-Gomez Peak picnic grounds.  The academic environment of Western New Mexico University contributes to the environment of learning and growth.

Attendees are encouraged to relax and become absorbed in the academic atmosphere ... even the presenters are asked to leave their suit and tie at home.

Valuable Education/Continuing Education

Students needing college credit can register at WNMU for three hours at the 400 or 500 level in Criminal Justice or Psychology. For those not needing college credits, there will be 25-32 CEUs of National Board of Certified Counselor Credits (NBCC).  These CEUs  are accepted by the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board for all licenses issued including LPC, LADAC and LSAA.

NBCC credits are accepted by all major licensing and certification boards including the Social Work, New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board and New Mexico Behavioral Health Practitioners Certification Board.  Many of these credits can also be used for Preventionist Certification.
