Awards Program

The New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence has established an awards program to acknowledge individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions in addressing the problem of domestic violence and/or sexual assault in New Mexico.  The recipient will have performed above and beyond their expectations and can be employed in any field, including social services, legal, law enforcement, medical or education. 

Awards Categories

Nomination Process

Individuals may nominate themselves or others. Individuals may make more than one nomination. Nominees must have worked on behalf of domestic violence issues; made significant contributions to domestic violence issues, and served as a role model for others. Previous recipients are not eligible for this award.

  

Following are the application criteria for each category and how each response will be ranked:

Emerging Leader

  • Name and contact information of nominator
  • Name and contact information of nominee
  • Brief biography of nominee
  • Responses to the following questions:   
    • How has your nominee worked on behalf of domestic violence issues? (30)
    • How has your nominee positively influenced and helped victims of domestic violence to forge ahead? (30)
    • What are this individual’s plans to continue working in this area? (20)
    • Why should this nominee receive this award? (30)
    • Is there anything else we should know about your nominee? (included with bullet above)

Corporate Leadership Award

Advocate of the Year

Nominations may be supplemented by supporting materials such as newspaper articles, letters of recommendation (no more than 3), resume, etc.


Finally, the nominee must agree to attend the annual New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence Conference to accept the award.

 

Selection Judges

A review committee will be established and include, but is not limited to the following representatives:

  • NMCADV Board Member
  • Past recipient
  • Legislator
  • Funder
  • Survivor

Staff of the NMCADV may not sit on the review panel however, staff will be responsible for nominating individuals to serve as judges.

Review Process

Each question has been assigned a value.  Reviewer will determine a score up to that amount for each section.  An “overall” category is available to take into account nominee rationale and supporting documents received.

Judges will review applications independently and rate responses.  The review committee will then meet to share scoring and discuss outcomes.  It is not mandatory that awards be given in all categories if qualified nominations are not received.
