GRADS: Promoting Healthy Relationships & Preventing Dating Violence Among Teen Parents - Kari Meredith, Office of the NM Attorney General; Judith Herrman, School of Nursing, University of Delaware
Teen dating violence is a major health concern for adolescents, including pregnant and parenting teens. Adolescent mothers may be especially vulnerable to ongoing relationship violence related to power and inequity. The stresses of parenting, economic dependence, and lack of personal skills may predispose a young mother to coercion in reproductive decision making. Learn more about the relationship of coercion, birth control sabotage and repeat pregnancy with Judith Herrman, during the first half of this special pre-conference workshop.
The pre-conference session also provides culturally relevant tools to use when working with teens engaged in potentially abusive relationships. Learn about the continuum of violence, especially as it relates to Native communities in a session with Kari Meredith.
